January 1, 2014

That's it!!  The New Year is here - we have 365 days ahead of us and it is up to us - and only us - what we will do with them!  A long time ago I read something and it has stuck with me ever since.  I'm paraphrasing, and I can't recall where I read it, but the basic idea is this:

Every day good things happen to bad people.  Bad things happen to good people.  We are hurt, or we're helped, or we're loved.  We make mistakes and we have successes - they may be minor or they may be major, but every single day we succeed at some things and fail at other.

A lot of times we chalk these up to luck, timing, chance or fate - it's easy to say that something bad happened because we were unlucky or the timing was off!  But that doesn't help us grow and it doesn't help us do better next time.  It takes the responsibility for our lives out of our hands and somewhere else in the universe - but not within us.

Imagine how powerful we would become if, instead of attributing these things to chance or fate, we took the responsibility for them!  This isn't to say that we cause all of these things to happen - of course that's not true.  But for every bad thing that happens in our lives (and good) we have a reaction - so even if we're not responsible for the actual event, we are responsible for our reaction to it!  Instead of laying blame or making wishes, if we put our nose to the grindstone and accept that we control our lives and we control our moods, we take the power back!  We have the responsibility and we have the power!

2014 is a new year and it's just upon us - I intend to live my life in this fashion.  I'm going to take responsibility, grow and learn and try to live better.  Happier.  Healthier.  More proud.  More accountable.  More confident.  More responsible.

Along with this, I have other resolutions - some are easy, some are difficult, and some scare me.  But I can't succeed if I don't try, and I can't try if I don't have a goal - so here they are!

Do you have resolutions?  Goals for 2014?  What are they?  I'd love to be able to root you on as you work towards them!
