Morning Workout

I have no problem admitting it - sometimes I just don't want to workout.  I am tired, or I've had a busy week, or I'm just being a lazy bum and don't want to drag my butt off the couch in order to get the workout it.  It happens.  I wish this weren't the case, and I hope that someday I stop feeling like this, but I doubt that will happen.  I think everyone has days where skipping the workout seems like the easier & better option than getting the workout it.

Throughout Insanity I was an after-work workout kind of girl.  Every day I would get home from work, get changed and do my workout.  Then I'd jump in the shower, do dinner, get some laundry done and hang out with Jake until it was time to sleep!  This worked pretty well and I got most of the workouts in - unless something came up at the last minute, or we had plans with friends that night, or I had to stay later at work.  My whole schedule would be off and the workout would be forgotten because of these things.

Earlier this month I started doing Shaun T's newest program, Focus T25.  It's only 25 minutes a day but on the same intensity level as Insanity.  As I thought about it, I realized that every day my workout was taking a lot longer than it needed to - because I'd be working out AND having an extra shower!  One of the biggest allures of T25 is that it's short - easy to fit in to any schedule!  So, I realized I had to make a change: I had to start working out in the morning.

That's what I've been doing for the past couple of weeks, and something strange has happened: I love it!  I never thought I was a morning person, but since working out in the morning I have more energy, more time and feel more accomplished!  I don't skip my workouts anymore and I can spend the rest of my day knowing that I already got the workout in.  It's a great feeling to come home from work and not have to workout & shower - I've definitely cleared up a lot of time in my day my just getting up a half hour earlier.  I already take a shower in the morning, of course, so why not workout right before??


My top 5 things I do to help me stay motivated and get my workout in:

1) I bring my workout clothes downstairs the night before - when I wake up, I know they're already waiting for me so I might as well use them!
2) Annoying alarm clock ringer. Enough said there, I believe!
3) I remind myself that if I do it now I don't have to do it later!
4) If I wake up between 5 & 530 (when my alarm clock is set for) I get up and turn the alarm off!  Going back to sleep for that extra 30 minutes gets me crabbier than I would be otherwise!
