Crustless Quiche

The other day I shared a picture of what I made for dinner - it was a crustless quiche and it reminded me of many meals I would have with my host family when I lived in the south of France!  It was tasty, easy, clean and did I mention tasty?  The best part of it was that it's a perfect left-over to have for breakfast the next morning!

And here's how you do it!

Let me know what you think!

Morning Workout

I have no problem admitting it - sometimes I just don't want to workout.  I am tired, or I've had a busy week, or I'm just being a lazy bum and don't want to drag my butt off the couch in order to get the workout it.  It happens.  I wish this weren't the case, and I hope that someday I stop feeling like this, but I doubt that will happen.  I think everyone has days where skipping the workout seems like the easier & better option than getting the workout it.

Throughout Insanity I was an after-work workout kind of girl.  Every day I would get home from work, get changed and do my workout.  Then I'd jump in the shower, do dinner, get some laundry done and hang out with Jake until it was time to sleep!  This worked pretty well and I got most of the workouts in - unless something came up at the last minute, or we had plans with friends that night, or I had to stay later at work.  My whole schedule would be off and the workout would be forgotten because of these things.

Earlier this month I started doing Shaun T's newest program, Focus T25.  It's only 25 minutes a day but on the same intensity level as Insanity.  As I thought about it, I realized that every day my workout was taking a lot longer than it needed to - because I'd be working out AND having an extra shower!  One of the biggest allures of T25 is that it's short - easy to fit in to any schedule!  So, I realized I had to make a change: I had to start working out in the morning.

That's what I've been doing for the past couple of weeks, and something strange has happened: I love it!  I never thought I was a morning person, but since working out in the morning I have more energy, more time and feel more accomplished!  I don't skip my workouts anymore and I can spend the rest of my day knowing that I already got the workout in.  It's a great feeling to come home from work and not have to workout & shower - I've definitely cleared up a lot of time in my day my just getting up a half hour earlier.  I already take a shower in the morning, of course, so why not workout right before??

My top 5 things I do to help me stay motivated and get my workout in:

1) I bring my workout clothes downstairs the night before - when I wake up, I know they're already waiting for me so I might as well use them!
2) Annoying alarm clock ringer. Enough said there, I believe!
3) I remind myself that if I do it now I don't have to do it later!
4) If I wake up between 5 & 530 (when my alarm clock is set for) I get up and turn the alarm off!  Going back to sleep for that extra 30 minutes gets me crabbier than I would be otherwise!
5) This bikini:

Have you been feeling like you want to start working out but you're not sure where to start?  Would you be interested in trying either of the programs I mentioned?  Are you ready to make a change in your life but need a bit of extra support?  Email me at to learn how you can be a part of my next challenge group!

Lean Out for Labor Day!

How has everyone's summer been going?
Has it been the summer we all dream about throughout the winter - beaches, pools, bikinis and short shorts?

Or have you once again been wearing long pants while pretending to be comfortable, swimsuit cover ups when you actually can bring yourself to wear a bikini and filling up on the beer and cheese curds??

I spent way too many summers like that - but it all changed once I joined a challenge group!  Now I feel confident, happy, secure and did I mention confident??

If you're ready to feel these same things, join up with me for my next challenge group: Lean Out for Labor Day!!

I'd love to have you be a part of my next Challenge Group!  Are you ready to commit to yourself, your health and your swimsuit body??

Here's how it works and what you have to do!

1.  You become a member of my Teambeachbody crew!  You can do that by going to and creating a user name and password!  I'll then get in touch with you through the email address you prove and we'll start the process of choosing the right program to meet your needs and I can answer any questions you may have about the challenge group.

2.  Then, together we will pick a Beachbody fitness program that is going to meet your unique health and fitness goals.  We will pick one with your individual ability in mind.

3.  You commit to replacing one meal a day with Shakeology for the duration of the group.  I require Shakeology because it is one meal that you don't have to worry about!  It is the one thing that is going to give you the energy to give your workouts your all, curb your cravings, control your hunger, boost your immune system and keep you the healthiest you have ever been.  If you choose to discontinue Shakeology after the Challenge that is fine, but it's really been the key for so many people and I think you'll find that you love it!

4.  You are an active participant in the challenge group.  This means that you will log into the closed Facebook support group at least once a day to see the daily post and also to post your daily check in.

I will be giving you weekly meal plans, recipes, tips, motivation and accountability! This group is for those that are ready and willing to take their nutrition and fitness to the next level!!!

Destructible Walls

I totally feel like this is so true!  We absolutely do live in the walls we create around ourselves!

Before starting to work out and eat healthy, I had an idea of who I was.  I was a girl who would always be bigger.  I wasn't destined to be a model and I wasn't born to be very fit.  I've always been able to wear clothes in a way that my larger tummy wasn't very noticeable so it didn't bother me a great deal.  Slowly I would buy bigger pant sizes but a lot of the times I blamed this on the clothes companies changing their sizing systems!  (Talk about denial, huh?!)

I knew myself to be someone that loved to read, watch movies, play games and hang out.  I didn't enjoy playing sports very much and I wasn't very outdoors-y.  I'd choose to go to a movie over play tennis because I just didn't want to get dirty.

These were all the things I knew about myself.  They were factual, just like the fact that I was born in August.  I couldn't change them, so why try.

All these things came back to slap me in the face when I stepped on the scale in January and it said 249 pounds.  This was no longer a simple case of corporate size-rigging or water weight.  This was something I had done to myself by lying to myself.

The truth is, I never was any of those things I believed myself to be.  I can be in shape, I can go down in sizes rather than buying larger sizes every couple of months, and I actually do enjoy working out!  I had told myself all those other things because I was afraid to try to change.  I was afraid I would fail at losing weight and I was afraid that I could never be the person I wanted to be.  I built these self-truths up as walls around myself so I couldn't be tempted to try - because if I didn't try, I couldn't fail.

No wonder my clothes stopped fitting me!

Trying to change, trying to get your life back in your own control, trying to defeat the negativity and focus on positive thoughts & trying to overcome your own doubts can be the hardest and scariest thing imaginable.  I can seem like failure is waiting around the door to come out and grab you - but it's not!  Your own future is in YOUR hands.  It's not some elusive dream; it's your own creation!  You can make your future as fulfilling, fun, successful and inspiring as you want to!

I know it's hard, and I know doing it by yourself can be discouraging.  But you don't have to do it alone!  I am doing it too and there are a ton of people in your exact same shoes - we can do it together!  Email me at today for more information on how you can join up to be in my next challenge group - we WILL make your dreams a reality!!

Focus T25: Day -1 Thoughts

Today marks day 1 of my 60-day Focus T 25 Challenge!   I can't wait to share my progress through the program and my results at the end of it, but today I wanted to think about what I'm hoping for.

So to prepare for this post, last night I did some brainstorming on what I'm hoping to achieve in the next 60 days - and hopefully I'll hit all these goals!!

As you may or may not know, I have lost almost 50 pounds.  The past couple of weeks has been a plateau where I haven't moved beyond the 203/204 range.  I'll go up and down a little bit but for the most part the scale has stuck right around there.  I'm going to take the next 60 days and really give it my all and see what type of results I can get - I'm excited to start!

I have about 22 pounds left until I hit my goal weight - over the next 8 weeks I would love to lose 15 of these.  I know that as I get closer to my goal weight it will probably get more difficult to keep losing, but I'm going into it with a lot of optimism and drive to do my best!

Starting tomorrow I'm going to allow myself three days of alcohol.  I'm in no way saying that I'm going to get drunk, just that if I choose to have a drink on these days it will be ok.  But for the other 57, no alcohol.  No nightcap or glass of wine or drinks at the bar.  I don't drink very often as it is, but I'm going to do it even more infrequently because it really is a lot of empty calories.  The 3 exceptions are as follows: my birthday, my 1 year marriage anniversary and one of my very good friend's weddings.  Besides these, I'm saying no to alcohol!

Lastly, but definitely not least, I want to get stronger at doing push ups!  I'm thinking Focus T25 can really help me with this and I'm going to make this a priority.  My arms have always been the part of my body that I'm most uncomfortable with and I'm ready for those insecure feelings to be a thing of the past!  My goal is to be able to wear a dress like this with no sweater or anything over my arms and be comfortable!!

Those are my 3 major goals for my 60 days with T25 - I can't wait to see where it takes me and I'll be keeping you updated with my progress along the way!

Emerald Coach!

This past week has been a very exciting one for me and I thought it was time to share what has been going on!

On Thursday I officially became an Emerald Coach with Beachbody!  I have been coaching for a couple months now and the entire experience has been incredible.  I have loved learning from some of the top leaders in the entire company and I have enjoyed getting to know other coaches better - some of whom I now consider friends!

Being an emerald coach means that I have advanced as a coach - I am truly making a difference in peoples lives and it is amazing to not only be doing that but also to be recognized for it!

Since starting with Beachbody I can honestly say that my life has changed - and definitely for the better!  I am in better shape, I am more positive and I am more driven than I have been in a long time.  I love hearing from my challengers and being able to celebrate their successes with them!  I never would have thought I could be someone that helps other people get fit and lead healthier lives but I am so proud to be able to do exactly that.

My coach put this up on Thursday when I went emerald and it meant so much to me - it shows how the team I'm a part of, the Dream Team, is really a phenomenal group of people.  We are all working together to end the the trend of obesity - we are helping to change lives and we are changing our own as well - financially, mentally, physically and emotionally!

Are you interested in changing your life in any or all of the above ways?  Have you been thinking for a while that you want to try but you're afraid you'll fail?  Do you want someone there to support you and give you encouragement on the difficult days?

Email me at and we can chat on ways to work together and get the results you want!  If you think it's time to make a change, it probably is - let's do it together!

I can't wait to hear from you!

Clean Restaurant Choices!

One of my favorite things to do and one of my favorite date nights is to go out to eat!  I love not having to clean up the kitchen and I love not having to plan out and cook a meal - it's a real treat!  We don't go out to eat very often, but when we do it's great to just be able to relax and talk instead of rushing around cleaning up afterwards.

Before I started Eating Clean and trying to lose weight I would order whatever I wanted.  My go-to choice was chicken alfredo - and of course with breadsticks!  It was my favorite and even Jake could guess what I was going to have because it really didn't change very much!  Now, though, my choices when eating out have changed a lot!  Here are some of my favorite things to remember when eating out:

Everyone knows that liquor has a ton of empty, extra calories - and that's before you add in all the sugar from the mixers used to make your favorite cocktail!  Plus, alcohol dehydrates your body - and you don't want that!!

I don't know anyone who doesn't love a rich, tasty dessert.  We rarely ever order dessert, but if it's a celebration and we want to indulge a bit, we definitely share one dessert instead of ordering two!  Restaurant portions are always huge - and the calorie counts are HUGE in their desserts!  Also, choose a dessert that doesn't have the terms "rich" "gooey" or "triple" in the names - those are definitely trouble!

This should be a no-brainer, and yet it's easy to forget!  When ordering pasta don't choose the cheesy, gooey, buttery option.  Instead, choose the pasta that has a tomato-based sauce.  This will not have the butter and cream like the white sauces and is much kinder on the waistline!  Also try to go with whole wheat pasta if that's an option!

Don't even let the bread basket tempt you!  Save your hunger for when your food comes - you'll appreciate the flavor so much more when you allow yourself to wait until your meal to start eating.  Plus, by not munching on the bread you will save all those calories.

What are your favorite things to remember when you're eating out?

Real-Life Barbie?

When I got home from work today I saw an article on the front page of Yahoo about a man who created a realistic image of a Barbie doll.  He took the Barbie doll that we all know and scaled her to the sizes of an average woman - not the idealized and unattainable image of beauty that is Barbie.

It got me thinking about self-image, beauty and the impact toys and the media can have on us as humans.  I don't think Barbie's influence is only on girls and women; I firmly believe that boys are also influenced - not only by Barbie, but by GI Joe and other action figures they play with.

I understand why companies make figures that are unrealistic.  It's the same reason models and movie stars are, for the most part, absolutely gorgeous with perfect hair, lips and a perfectly toned body.  It's what we wish we looked like and because of that we're more likely to pay for the magazine with their face on the cover or buy the clothing they've been wearing around town.  (I blame the Ugg craze on this, as well.  Because really, I see no other explanation for that one.)

When I looked at the pictures of the real Barbie with his Barbie, though, I realized - I like his Barbie's body better!  She's just as pretty, just as in shape, but she looks like somebody I could know - not somebody with a body that's completely unrealistic and unhealthy.

I spend a lot of my time lately talking, thinking and learning about health & fitness, and I think Barbie 2.0 is a much better role model for young girls than the original.  Now if only we could get Mattel to make one like her.

What do you think?

Protein + Complex Carbs

In some of my other posts about clean eating, I've mentioned that one of the best things we can do for our bodies, health, metabolism and weight loss is to pair lean protein with complex carbohydrates at every meal. Before I started eating clean and really reading up on health and nutrition I would have had no idea what this meant, nor would I have known how to do it.

But very soon (like seriously, days) after starting to eat clean I noticed a drastic change in my cravings and my fatigue.  I simply wasn't tired as often, I slept better at night and I stopped getting hungry throughout the day.  I think that the combination of lean protein and complex carbs helped me not only eat healthier, but to be more productive throughout the day.

The combination of the two keeps your metabolism revved for the entire day, prolongs digestion and helps your blood sugar levels stay stable.  All this helps you stay energized, alert and lose weight!

In the image below are some of my favorite ways to pair the two - and as an added bonus they're all easy, cheap, quick and tasty!
